About the Course

This course helps professionals develop their ability to create meaningful, user-friendly digital experiences through evidence-based and responsible design practices.

The course follows a clear progression, from understanding the role and responsibilities of UX design to researching user needs, developing solutions, and validating decisions through data and experimentation. You will build a strong foundation in UX research, ethics, and design principles, and then move into UI design, data-driven analysis, and experimentation.

Through hands-on projects, you will work with real-world methods such as user research, prototyping, data analysis, and testing, with a focus on turning insights into clear design decisions, communicating with stakeholders, and improving solutions through iteration.

After the course, you will be able to contribute to UX work and balance user needs, business goals, and ethical considerations.

After the course

After completing the course, you will be able to:

  • Conduct user research: interview users, collect data, and identify needs and problems

  • Develop design solutions: create wireframes, flows, and prototypes based on insights

  • Test and improve solutions: plan and run usability tests and iterate on designs

  • Analyse data and draw conclusions: interpret user behaviour and test results to inform design decisions

  • Communicate and collaborate in teams: present ideas, justify design choices, and work with developers and stakeholders

Application task brief expand_more expand_less

To submit your application, you’ll need to complete an Application Task. Here’s how it works:

Choose a digital product or service that you use regularly (for example: a public transport app, online grocery store, music streaming service, or booking platform).

In 250 words or less, describe one specific user problem you’ve noticed and propose a simple improvement that could make the experience better. Your response should include:

  1. What product or service you choose
  2. What problems or challenges users might face
  3. Why it matters
  4. Your idea for how it could be improved
  5. What would the impact be on the user

Tip: You don’t need design software for this — focus on your reasoning, not visuals.

Use of AI
You are welcome to use AI tools as long as it follows these 2 principles:

  1. Acknowledge your use of AI - Be transparent. If you use AI, note briefly where and how.
  2. Explain your own added value - Reflect on how you built on the AI’s output. What did you adjust, critique, or extend?

Evaluation Criteria (3 points per question max 12 points):

  1. Problem Definition (3 Points) - Is the user problem clearly identified and relevant?
  2. Analytical Reasoning (3 Points) - Does the applicant logically connect cause (problem) and effect (solution)?
  3. User Understanding (3 Points) - Does the applicant demonstrate understanding for user experience and needs?
  4. Clarity of Communication (3 Points) - Is the explanation concise, structured, and easy to follow?

How much time do I need to dedicate?
 expand_more expand_less

This course is part-time and corresponds to an average of approximately 20 hours of study per week.

Digital lessons – are these mandatory?
 expand_more expand_less

Lessons are not mandatory, but we recommend attending them to get the most out of the course. This is where discussions and exchanges between the course leader and fellow students take place.

Lessons are not recorded, so they cannot be accessed afterward if you do not attend live. We schedule all workshops and supervision sessions outside of working hours to make it easier for you to participate.

In an increasingly AI-driven and digital world, Hyper Island offers a truly unique live and interactive learning experience. We encourage you to make the most of it.

Will the lessons be recorded so that I can watch them afterward?
 expand_more expand_less

At Hyper Island, we do not record our lessons, as our pedagogy is built around active participation, human interaction, and collaborative learning.

Much of the learning happens through conversation, reflection, exercises, and the interactions that emerge between participants in the room. When you are present, contributing, listening, and experimenting together with others, you learn far more than by watching recorded material afterward.

Our methodology is therefore designed to create a safe and engaging learning environment where students are active participants rather than passive observers.

Can I take several YH-courses at the same time?
 expand_more expand_less

You are allowed to apply for and participate in more than one course at the same time, but it is not recommended, as many of our courses have scheduled lessons that take place simultaneously. You also need to ensure that you have enough time available, as each course corresponds to approximately 20 hours of study per week.

How do exams, presentations, and assignments work when studying remotely?
 expand_more expand_less

When studying remotely, all course activities are adapted to be completed digitally. Here are the most common ways we assess students:

* Individual assignments: All courses include written assignments that you submit through our learning platform.
* Digital presentations: Oral presentations are conducted digitally, usually live, where you present in real time to course leaders and fellow students.

Will I receive a diploma, certificate, or similar after completing the course?
Yes, provided that you successfully complete all parts of the course, you will receive a certificate of completion.

How do I verify my work experience?
 expand_more expand_less

You verify your work experience by completing Hyper Island’s work experience appendix, including a clear description of your different professional roles. This you will find when you start your application. Please make sure to include the start and end dates, job title, job description, and scope of employment for each position. Once you have been deemed eligible for the program, you will also receive an invitation to a selection test where your knowledge in the subject area will be assessed.

I do not meet the entry requirements / I cannot find my upper secondary school grades.
 expand_more expand_less

If, for example, you are unable to provide your upper secondary school grades, you may still be eligible through prior learning assessment (reell kompetens). This means we assess your overall competence, including work experience, involvement in associations or organizations, and other experiences you have gained throughout your life.

I have older or international upper secondary school grades.
 expand_more expand_less

We use assessment guidelines developed by the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR), as well as an admissions handbook produced by the Swedish National Agency for Higher Vocational Education. Using these resources, we are able to assess most types of qualifications, such as leaving certificates, interim grades, final grades, folk high school qualifications, and municipal adult education (Komvux) certificates.

Similarly, we review and assess your international upper secondary school qualifications to determine whether they meet the general and specific entry requirements for the program. If you have a translation or validation from UHR, please include it with your application.

Can I receive CSN funding if I take this course? How do I apply for CSN?
 expand_more expand_less
