Decoding collaboration as a strategic capability
ABOUT THE CLIENT
THE CHALLENGE
Deutsche Telekom is evolving its culture into T-Style to strengthen the ways of working needed in an increasingly complex, AI-enabled, global environment.
Collaboration is a key priority: making it the default way of working across teams, markets, functions, and hierarchies. But silos, local priorities, lengthy alignment, and different market realities can still slow decisions and limit impact.
The challenge was to turn collaboration from an aspiration into a shared, practical way of working: clarifying what it means, how leaders can role-model it, and how it enables DT to act as one global team.
THE APPROACH
Hyper Island partnered with DT on a focused 6-week sprint to explore and decode collaboration as a strategic capability.
In this short timeframe, we combined:
- Deep qualitative exploration through interviews and facilitated group sessions
- Hands-on co-creation using shared sense-making and structured dialogue
- Strong facilitation with evidence-based models and theory on collaboration.
RESULTS & IMPACT
The sprint resulted in a clear, shared definition of cross-boundary collaboration at DT, grounded in real work, leadership behaviour, and operating conditions - not abstract values.
For the Leadership Excellence team, the work created:
- A strong, aligned point of view on collaboration.
- A common language and set of insights to anchor future initiatives.
- Clear opportunity areas and example interventions to build on.
