Building self-leadership in a high-performance culture
ABOUT THE CLIENT
EQT is a global investment organisation with approximately 1,900 employees and is ranked number two globally in private equity capital raised.
Hyper Island works with Associates and Senior Associates as they develop their leadership capabilities and take on greater responsibility within the organisation.
THE CHALLENGE
EQT operates in an environment where expectations are high and people are expected to take significant responsibility early in their careers. For the past two years, Hyper Island has worked with EQT to strengthen the human side of performance by developing self-leadership among Associates and Senior Associates.
The challenge is closely connected to collaboration. How people understand themselves, manage their own behaviour and respond under pressure affects their ability to work with others. The programme therefore looks at self-leadership in the service of collaborative impact, connecting the individual to the wider team.
THE APPROACH
Hyper Island designed a global, nine-week Self-Leadership Program that combines online learning with on-site experiences.
The programme is structured around the relationship between ME and TEAM. Participants explore their own behaviours, patterns and ways of working, while considering how these influence their ability to contribute to teams and create impact with others.
Over two years of working together, the programme has continued to evolve. A central part of the partnership has been listening closely to EQT and adapting the experience based on feedback, changing needs and what is happening inside the organisation. This ability to listen, pivot and improve has been important in building trust with an experienced and highly demanding Talent Development team.
RESULTS & IMPACT
The continued partnership over two years has allowed Hyper Island and EQT to develop and refine the programme across multiple cohorts, rather than treating it as a fixed learning intervention.
The programme gives Associates and Senior Associates time to examine how they operate in a high-performance environment and how their individual choices affect the people around them. The aim is to strengthen self-awareness and help participants translate it into behaviours that support both their own performance and stronger collaboration.
