Application task brief expand_more expand_less

Application Task: Exploring Creative Possibilities with Emerging Tech

Emerging technologies, whether AI, XR, or new storytelling tools are reshaping how creative work is imagined, produced, and experienced. This task invites you to think like a creative practitioner who uses technology with intention, curiosity, and responsibility.

In 250 words or less, describe:

A creative challenge or opportunity you would like to explore using emerging technologies (e.g., “How might XR help audiences engage more deeply with cultural heritage?” or “How could AI expand my visual storytelling practice?”).

Which emerging technologies you would use (AI, XR, prototyping tools, digital marketing tools, etc.) and why they fit your idea.

What outcome or impact do you hope to create? For example audience engagement, workflow improvements, new forms of expression, or more ethical/sustainable creative decisions.

You do not need to build anything; just think critically and imaginatively about what is possible.

Use of AI

You are welcome to use AI tools as long as you follow these two principles:

  1. Acknowledge your use of AI. Be transparent. If you used AI at any point, note briefly where and how.
  2. Explain your own added value. What did you change, critique, or add? How did you shape the idea beyond the AI-generated suggestions?

Evaluation Criteria (3 points each — 12 points total)

  1. Quality of the Creative Opportunity - Is the idea clear, meaningful, and relevant to the role of emerging tech in creative practice?
  2. Technology Fit - Do you identify relevant emerging technologies and explain logically why they support your idea?
  3. Applied Creative Insight - Do you show how technology could enhance storytelling, branding, workflow, user experience, or ethical/sustainable decisions?
  4. Clarity of Communication - Is the answer structured, concise, and easy to understand?

How much time do I need to dedicate?
 expand_more expand_less

This course is part-time and corresponds to an average of approximately 20 hours of study per week.

How does the selection process work? expand_more expand_less

If the number of eligible applicants exceeds the number of available places, a selection process will be carried out.

Selection is based on the applicant’s relevant professional experience in areas related to the course content and learning outcomes.

As part of the application, you will be asked to state the number of years of relevant professional experience you have. This information must be supported by documentation, such as employment certificates, employer references, or equivalent documentation.

Points are awarded based on the number of full years of relevant professional experience. Each year corresponds to 10 points.

Examples:

  • 3 years of relevant professional experience = 30 points
  • 4 years of relevant professional experience = 40 points
  • 5 years of relevant professional experience = 50 points

Eligible applicants are ranked according to their total score. Applicants with the highest scores will be offered places first.

Digital lessons – are these mandatory?
 expand_more expand_less

Lessons are not mandatory, but we recommend attending them to get the most out of the course. This is where discussions and exchanges between the course leader and fellow students take place.

Lessons are not recorded, so they cannot be accessed afterward if you do not attend live. We schedule all workshops and supervision sessions outside of working hours to make it easier for you to participate.

In an increasingly AI-driven and digital world, Hyper Island offers a truly unique live and interactive learning experience. We encourage you to make the most of it.

Will the lessons be recorded so that I can watch them afterward?
 expand_more expand_less

At Hyper Island, we do not record our lessons, as our pedagogy is built around active participation, human interaction, and collaborative learning.

Much of the learning happens through conversation, reflection, exercises, and the interactions that emerge between participants in the room. When you are present, contributing, listening, and experimenting together with others, you learn far more than by watching recorded material afterward.

Our methodology is therefore designed to create a safe and engaging learning environment where students are active participants rather than passive observers.

Can I take several YH-courses at the same time?
 expand_more expand_less

You are allowed to apply for and participate in more than one course at the same time, but it is not recommended, as many of our courses have scheduled lessons that take place simultaneously. You also need to ensure that you have enough time available, as each course corresponds to approximately 20 hours of study per week.

How do exams, presentations, and assignments work when studying remotely?
 expand_more expand_less

When studying remotely, all course activities are adapted to be completed digitally. Here are the most common ways we assess students:

* Individual assignments: All courses include written assignments that you submit through our learning platform.
* Digital presentations: Oral presentations are conducted digitally, usually live, where you present in real time to course leaders and fellow students.

Will I receive a diploma, certificate, or similar after completing the course?
 expand_more expand_less

Yes, provided that you successfully complete all parts of the course, you will receive a certificate of completion.

How do I verify my work experience?
 expand_more expand_less

You verify your work experience by submitting your CV in a PDF format and the amount of years of experience in the application process. Please make sure to include the start and end dates, job title, job description, and scope of employment for each position.

I do not meet the entry requirements / I cannot find my upper secondary school grades.
 expand_more expand_less

If, for example, you are unable to provide your upper secondary school grades, you may still be eligible through prior learning assessment (reell kompetens). This means we assess your overall competence, including work experience, involvement in associations or organizations, and other experiences you have gained throughout your life.

I have older or international upper secondary school qualifications.
 expand_more expand_less

We use assessment guidelines developed by the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR), as well as an admissions handbook produced by the Swedish National Agency for Higher Vocational Education. Based on these guidelines, we are able to assess most types of qualifications, including leaving certificates, interim grades, final grades, folk high school qualifications, and municipal adult education (Komvux) certificates.

Similarly, we review and assess your international upper secondary school qualifications to determine whether they meet the general and specific entry requirements for the program. If you have a translation or validation issued by UHR, please include it with your application.

Can I receive CSN funding if I take this course? How do I apply for CSN?
 expand_more expand_less

Yes, you are eligible to apply for student financial aid from CSN for our part-time YH-courses (50% study pace). Studying a tuition-free course that is eligible for CSN funding is a fantastic opportunity for personal and professional development.

It also means that competition for places is high, but in turn, you will be part of a learning environment with other motivated, experienced, and curious participants.

Hyper Island is not involved in your CSN application process. To find out whether you are eligible for CSN and how to apply, please visit the CSN website.
