The Application Process
SWEDISH GOVERNMENT-FUNDED SEATS
INTERNATIONAL SEATS
Please follow a step-by-step guide on how to submit your application for Hyper Island's Government-funded seat:
Step 1 - Create a Classter account: To access this year’s Application Task brief, you must first create an account on Classter. After registering your account, you will receive a confirmation email. Make sure to follow the steps outlined in this email.
Step 2 - Access and start Classter: Once you’ve logged in to Classter, you’ll be redirected to your account dashboard, where you can find the link to the Application Task page and start filling out your personal information.
Step 3 - Submit required documents: Prepare and submit the following required documents:
- CV: One page & in English.
- Proof of education: Upload documents that show you have completed at least high school, whether in Sweden or another country. Click here to see which document you need to upload. Translation is not required.
- Proof of basic knowledge of Swedish or any other Scandinavian languages, such as Danish, Faroese, Icelandic, or Norwegian. Refer to the information provided on the Eligibility Requirements page for more details.
- Application Task 2025: submit your application task response.
- Additional document: Some programs may have specific requirements, ensure to check the program page.
This is important to consider when uploading documents or screenshots for your application:
- All documents have a good sharpness
- The grading documents are clearly visible
- Full names are included and clear
By following these steps and submitting the required documents, you’ll stay on track to complete your application for the government-funded seat.
Eligibility Assessment
After the application deadline has passed, we will evaluate your eligibility based on the application you submitted. To qualify for admission to a program, you must meet two types of eligibility requirements:
1. Basic Eligibility
You must have a high school diploma or municipal adult education (Komvux) equivalent, with at least 2,250 points and passing grades in English 5, Mathematics 1, and Swedish 1 (or their equivalents). Equivalent qualifications may include:
- Studies at a folk high school (Folkhögskolan)
- A foreign high school diploma
- Other education or practical experience that qualifies you for admission to our programs
2. Specific Eligibility
Some programs have additional requirements that must be met to qualify for admission. These may include:
- Grades in specific high school courses
- Professional experience relevant to the program
If professional experience is a requirement, you must submit supporting documentation, such as work certificates or pay slips. To ensure acceptance of these documents, they must clearly state:
- Time period of employment (start and end dates)
- Extent of employment (percentage of full-time work)
- Job duties
Please note: Work certificates must also include your personal details and be dated and signed by the employer.
Specific requirements per program:
Data Analyst: Completion of Math 2
Frontend Developer: Completion of Math 2 and Programming 1
Motion Creative: Previous experience in Film, Photography or Sound Design
Other Ways to Prove Eligibility
If we assess your application as "not eligible," we will contact you to provide an opportunity to submit additional documentation. Note that any additional documents must be submitted by the specified deadline.
Below are alternative ways to demonstrate eligibility if you do not meet the formal requirements:
1. Apply Through Real Competence
If you do not meet the formal eligibility criteria, such as lacking a high school diploma, you may demonstrate equivalent knowledge through other means. For example:
- Practical experience in a relevant field
- Achieving a score higher than 8 on the Application Task
To claim real competence in your application, you must provide supporting documentation, such as certificates or other evidence, to prove your qualifications.
2. The 20% Rule
In exceptional cases, we may admit applicants under the "20% rule." This rule allows us to waive formal eligibility requirements for up to 20% of the available spots in a program. To qualify, you must demonstrate sufficient relevant experience, and we must determine that you are likely to succeed in the program and your future profession.
However, competition for these spots is very high. For this reason, we strongly recommend that you strive to meet eligibility requirements through other means wherever possible.
This is how the selection is made
Selection Round 1:
In the first selection round, we evaluate your basic eligibility and, if applicable, your specific eligibility. During this round, we also review and score your Application Task.
If any required documents are missing, we will contact you to request them. Additionally, we may award eligibility through Real Competence or the 20% rule if applicable.
Once this round is complete, we will notify you about the outcome. You will either receive an invitation to proceed to the next stage or, unfortunately, be informed that your application has not been successful this year.
Selection Round 2:
If the number of eligible applicants exceeds the available seats for a program, a selection process is conducted. This process takes place during our Admissions Days.
The Admissions Days allow us to evaluate your problem solving skills and your ability to work solution-oriented in group settings. They also provide an opportunity for you to connect with other applicants.
All applicants who meet the eligibility requirements and submit their applications during the regular application period will be invited to participate in Admissions Days. After completing the Admissions Days, all participants are evaluated and ranked on a point scale. This ranking determines who will be offered a place in the program.
Important dates:
Application Deadline: April 10, 2025 at 17:00 CEST.
Admissions Days: Between May 13, 2025 to May 23, 2025.
Admissions results: Admissions results will be shared with all eligible applicants before Midsommar 2025.
Swedish residents may also qualify for financial aid through CSN during their studies. For complete details, please refer to the information provided on this page: Eligibility requirements
For those applying from Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Finland and the Faroe Islands, you should contact your local education support provider.

Successful applicants need to have at least a high school diploma. No previous work experience is required.
If you have not graduated from high school yet but are on track to graduate in Spring 2025, you can still apply to Hyper Island.
Please ask your school to provide a certificate with your predicted grades and submit that document as your education backup. You will need to send your final grades to us as soon as you receive them.
Applicants must meet at least one of the following English language proficiency criteria:
- IELTS: A minimum overall score of 5.5, with no section scoring below 5.0.
- At least a passing grade in a foreign equivalent of English 6 (Swedish high school course).
- Proof of previous education in English: Successful completion of studies at an English-speaking institution (high school, vocational school, college, or university).
- If you are from an English-speaking country, you are exempt from submitting an English test. However, you must still demonstrate English proficiency through a school transcript or other document.
Hyper Island will provide the necessary documentation for applications to the Swedish Migration Agency (Migrationsverket) for students requiring a student residence permit. In order to receive this backup documentation from Hyper Island you must be a fee-paying international student who has gone through the international admissions process with us.
Upon submitting your application, you'll be notified if you have made it to the next round, which is the admissions day. You will be invited to an admissions preparatory meeting to get all your remaining questions answered and we will prepare you for the next step, Digital Admissions Day. This day consists of a personal but informal interview and an interactive group task with other international applicants.
If you have successfully gone through the whole admissions process, you will be notified on your admissions decision a week after joining a full Digital Admissions Day.
