Statement in regards to the admissions process for our Diploma Programs and Swedish government-funded education.
Delivering high-quality education for both current and future students is our top priority. As a Swedish vocational school, we regularly get audited by Myndigheten för yrkeshögskolan (MYH). Recently we have undergone an audit of our admissions process to our Diploma Programs and received criticism. We take this very seriously and are fully committed to addressing the issues raised. We agree with MYH that parts of our communication regarding the general entry requirements have been unclear and not fully aligned with the regulation ("förordning").
In dialogue with MYH, we have clarified and understood the necessary changes for us to make.
The admissions process itself remains largely unchanged. Applicants who meet the general entry requirements and have sufficient knowledge of Swedish may apply for government-funded seats. Those who do not meet these criteria still have the opportunity to study at Hyper Island through a self-funded seat.
Our Diploma Programs are delivered in English and we have assessed that it is not possible to guarantee that a student on a government-funded seat can fully benefit from the education without adequate knowledge of Swedish. Our government-funded programs are developed in close collaboration with the Swedish industry, who value students having both Swedish language skills and the relevant professional terminology in English.
We have concluded that Swedish language qualifications for applicants are necessary to fulfil our mission as a vocational education provider: to prepare students for professional life in the Swedish market.
We have updated our website and admissions system to ensure compliance with the regulation. Once these changes have been reviewed by MYH, we expect this part of the audit to be concluded.
It is important for us to ensure alignment with all standards and we regularly discuss audits and quality matters with our program steering committees. Audits from MYH are a regular and important part of the quality assurance process in the Swedish vocational system and we welcome them as a valuable tool for continuous improvement.

In the audit, MYH noted the following:
- On our website, we didn’t clearly explain that applicants only need to meet one of the four general entry requirements, in addition to having sufficient knowledge of Swedish.
- We have, on one occasion on our website, used incorrect wording: saying “citizen” instead of “resident.”
- We also stated that applicants need permanent or temporary right of residence in any of the Nordic countries, not tied to their studies at Hyper Island. This information is incorrect.
- In our admissions system, we have previously required a Swedish ID/Coordination number. Even though it can be asked for when applying, it should only be required after acceptance to a Diploma Program. We need it to register the student with MYH and perform obligatory reporting to SCB.
We have until May 7th 2025, to report back on our actions to MYH.
